Ira Heber Kent (I. H.) settled
in Churchill County in 1876. Since that time, members of his family have
been active in local business and community affairs.
In the spring of 1892, I. H.
Kent opened his mercantile business in Stillwater, which was then the county
seat. When the county seat was moved to Fallon in 1906, the Kent store
moved with it. The store was put on skids and drawn by horses to
Fallon. Kent was then the county treasurer, so he and the store followed
the county records to their new locations.
The heavy mining in Fallon
and Wonder and the increased agricultural activity helped Kent build his
mercantile business into one of the largest in Nevada. Kent gave the
farmers credit for one year. At harvest time, the store accepted the
farmers' crops - turkeys, hay, and other products - as payment.
Kent's Supply Center, Inc., formerly
known as the I. H. Kent Company celebrates 115 years of serving Churchill County.
It continues to be a family
owned and operated business.
Karla Kent operates the
business today with the philosophy as her dad, Thomas Kent, his dad, Ira L. Kent
and his dad, Ira H. Kent.
Deep roots, commitment of
community and the belief of running the business in a fair manner is the
tradition that Karla Kent continues.
Kent's Supply vision of the
future includes continuing the business into the new millennium, which means to
change with the community, and to serve each of its customers as neighbors, with
the highest level of service and quality products at a competitive price.
All of the Kent's Team would
like to thank all of their customers for the support and friendship shown to
Kent's Supply over the years. The team looks forward to serving everyone
into the future with the level of service they deserve.
